Critical for Best Results
KEEP BREEDING INDICATORS WARM ESTROTECT ™ Breeding Indicators should be warmed to 100°F or 38°C immediately prior to application. This activates the adhesive and
Place breeding indicator on the application site halfway between the hip and tail head. Press down firmly and rub into hair with bare fingers. Do not apply in rainy weather. DO NOT use ESTROTECT ™ Breeding Indicators with alcohol or oil-based pour-ons or sprays as they will damage the product. Doing so will avoid warranty. CHECK FOR RESULTS When cows have been mounted, the ESTROTECT™ Breeding Indicator’s silver and black surface – featuring the NEW Breeding Bullseye ™ – is rubbed off by the friction of the mounting and will reveal the indicator color (red/orange, green, blue, yellow or fuchsia). With each mount, the silver and black

Create optimal conditions for adhesion by vigorously brushing the coat across the backbone on the back half of the cow. Brush with the grain of the hair to remove dirt, dust and shedding hair. The ESTROTECT ™ Rubber Brush is recommended as it does not raise excess dust and oil. NOTE : Protect Breeding Indicators from tail flicking by placing them near the top of the tail when fly counts are high. CLEAN THE HAIR

provides instant adhesion at lower temperatures. For small quantities (less than five breeding indicators), warming inside clothing is acceptable if given adequate time. For large quantities, put the indicators in a small cooler with a hot water bottle or other heat source, as this is more effective and consistent.
Clean the surface area when needed with ESTROTECT ™ Cleaning Cloth to completely remove any remaining dirt, dust, sand or sawdust. As with brushing, wipe with grain of the hair and fold the cleaning cloth as needed. The ESTROTECT ™ Cleaning Cloth is effective as long as it is sticky. BREEDING INDICATOR APPLICATION
Remember, ESTROTECT ™ Breeding Indicator should always be soft and flexible at the application for optimal adhesion.
How to use and apply ESTROTECT™
surface will gradually reveal the indicator colour indicating a true standing heat. Once the black Breeding Bullseye ™ is rubbed off, or the equivalent area, this indicates the animal is in standing heat and the breeding protocol should be initiated. When the ESTROTECT ™ Breeding Indicator is activated by mounting activity, the indicator color should appear very shiny and polished. The indicator colour will be less prevalent in high stress environments, hot weather, high production or in a crowded conditions as cows may be less inclined to mount. If running various breeding programs or groups, use different colours of ESTROTECT ™ Breeding Indicators. For instance, use a different color for each insemination to define how many times the animal has been bred. Adapted from Franco et al. (2018a) and Speckhart et al. (2018)
In multiple studies from the U.S. and Brazil, pregnancy establishment increased and pregnancy loss decreased when the Breeding Bullseye™ was rubbed away. 5 Patch scores of 4 resulted in 66% pregnancy rates 30 days after AI. Patch score 1 cattle saw pregnancy rates of 35% in Brazil and 50% in the U.S. Additionally, cattle bred in these studies with patch scores of only 1 or 2 had nearly 12% pregnancy loss. Females bred with patch scores of 3 to 4 only experienced pregnancy loss around 3%. The Breeding Bullseye™ can help make cow-side breeding decisions. For instance, if a cow or heifer has the Breeding Bullseye™ (or greater surface area) rubbed o , you might choose to breed to sexed semen, high-value semen or even use an embryo.
>75% ink rubbed

Ultimately, the scoring system shows estrus intensity. Higher scores equate to higher estrus intensity and therefore, better chances for a successful pregnancy. Research showed that cows with scores 3 and 4, the equivalent of the Breeding Bullseye™ or greater, should be bred because they’ve reached peak estrus. Estrotect™ Breeding Indicators
Confirming Pregnancies Pregnancy testing is a practice cattle producers struggle to implement consistently. According to USDA, only 18% of operations palpate for pregnancies and 2.2% ultrasound for pregnancies. 6 The ESTROTECT™ Breeding Indicator offers a simple and accurate method of pregnancy detection by attaching the patch following the breeding season. If the patches show no signs of estrus activity following breeding via AI or exposure to a bull, the cows or heifers can be assumed pregnant. A joint study by South Dakota State University and the University of Missouri compared the ESTROTECT™ Breeding Indicator with three different blood-based pregnancy tests and showed the patches perform as good or better in determining pregnancy. 7 CONCLUSION The precision design of the ESTROTECT™ Breeding Bullseye™ cannot be found anywhere else on the market. As a complete breeding management tool, the ESTROTECT™ Breeding Indicator with Breeding Bullseye™ technology helps confirm pregnancies, determine cycling and pinpoint timing for breeding. Through university-led research, an exclusive and proven patch scoring system was developed for the ESTROTECT™ Breeding Indicator. Breeding by patch scoring to determine estrus intensity can guide management decisions to help achieve more pregnancies and move your herd’s genetics forward while keeping economics in mind.

Dairymac Bray Breeding Calendar
The Dairymac Bray Calendar is a comprehensive visual record of your dairy herd, giving you key information at a glance. The Dairymac Bray Calendar system is used effectively by many dairy herds as a comprehensive and effective visual management tool and for those with a computer based system the Bray Calendar is an excellent backup and visual guide. The Bray calendar can be safely viewed by all staff, family and outside contractors without providing access to precious computer data. The Bray Calendar is a metal board, with a central dial and indicators, protected by Perspex doors. Unlike your computer system, the Bray Calendar can be safely positioned on the wall of your dairy, where it is needed. The dial works though a 365 day cycle and can identify what point in the breeding and production cycle each of your cows are, or should be. The calendar helps spot issues before they become problems. The system provides indications of expected heats, when to inseminate, calving, the need to dry off, confirm in calf etc. This complete system allows the herd to be assessed at a glance and encourages more careful monitoring of herd activity, in turn resulting in improved efficiencies and profits. Each Calendar can monitor over 500 cows and farmer can run multiple calendars for larger herds. Each cow is represented a 6 coloured magnetic cubes, you can either buy blank magnets and a special marker pen or pre-printed magnets 1-75, 76 150, etc up to 975.
“My Bray Calendar tells me exactly when a cow needs to be dried off, and whenever something happens such as a cow calving you update her magnet and are able to check the rest of the herd at the same time. All my management decisions are based on what my Bray Calendar tells me and it is always consulted before the vet visits so I can tell him the status of the herd.” Roger Mann 80 Cows Warwickshire

Dairymac Bray Breeding Calendar Operating Instructions
Choose a well-lit and secure position in the dairy or other adjacent building and fix the calendar on the wall at approximately 6’6” (2.0m) to the top above floor level using the key hole slots provided. The cherry red cursor hand should be set to suit the type of pregnancy testing used; either at 28 days after service where milk sample testing is required or perhaps at 7-8 weeks after service if pregnancy diagnosis is carried out by the vet. Similarly the blue “steam up feeding” hand
BLUE This hand acts as a reminder to prepare for calving or for steam up feeding to begin, as soon as the cow starts to receive extra rations turn symbol to blue and leave in this position until calving when the cycle starts again.
vet calls he should examine and treat this cow for cystic ovary, corpus luteum, etc., so that she may be in fit condition for breeding well before service is due. Any cow whose symbol is still white six weeks after calving should be examined. ORANGE On the day of service the cow’s symbol should be turned to orange and must be placed exactly under the large orange “service” hand. This hand is 283 days away from the white hand and indicates the expected calving date. 21 days after service the small orange hand acts as a reminder to check that the cow has settled. If she returns to bull her symbol will be moved back to under “service” hand also into the inner “first return” ring of the calendar. The return areas act as a valuable early warning since if more than perhaps 30% of the herd gets into this area then the vet should be consulted as a herd breeding problem may be on the way. RED This hand serves as a reminder that pregnancy diagnosis is due. As soon as the cow is confirmed in calf, turn the symbol to cherry red. The symbol of any empty cows must be returned to the green area to await veterinary attention and repeat service. YELLOW The yellow “dry off’ hand indicates that milking should be stopped. As soon, as the cow is dry, turn her symbol to yellow.
should be positioned to suit the season and local routine. Every cow in the herd has its own numbered magnetic symbol with each colour on the symbol and on the calendar turntable having a meaning to indicate a stage in the breeding cycle of the cow. Thus by good herd management we try to get the colours of the symbols to match the colours on the turntable throughout the year. WHITE The white “today’s calving date” hand must be set daily to the correct calendar date. The symbol of any cow calving is placed, white side up, under this hand. GREEN Within the first week or two after calving the cow may be expected to show signs of heat; as soon as this occurs turn her symbol green. At the same time in order to begin recognition of a regular 21 day cycle, move her symbol anti-clockwise (to shorten the “calving index”) and place it exactly opposite the nearest “21 days” green hand. This cow should come bulling again when the next green hand points at her indicating normal healthy activity. But if she came at, say 16 days or 25 days, thus indicating an irregular cycle, her symbol should be moved into the inner “returns” area on the board which is reserved for the shy breeders. Next time the

You should always consult your semen provider as to their actual recommendations: n Normal and Sexed Semen are typically thawed at 35-37˚C (95-98˚F) for 30-45 seconds If this does not take place then a percentage of sperm will die long before they ever see a cow, this has even greater consequences for sexed semen and older straws. Our new Dairymac Superthaw™ is designed and manufactured in the UK and based on a comprehensive list of ‘needs’ and ‘ desires’ in our discussions with farmers, AI technicians and vets .

Dairymac ™
usually thawed with a Dairymac Superthaw™ to 36° (96°F) or 37°C (98°F). The straw is then inserted into a stainless steel A.i Gun, the tip snipped off and a protective sheath put over the top.
