Canada, farmed in Canada, fought in WW1 at the Somme. Brian is piecing together the history via Military Medals and records. Sid – Shared the military history of his father through War Medals and photographs of his father. This investigation led to finding two more siblings. Judy – Shared her heirloom file. It included family trees and information as well as choir book, and a locket. These heirloom files are a good idea to pass down to the next generation. Richard – A very intriguing suspicious death of a child. Between searching inquest reports, marriage records, census and newspaper articles there is a lot of confusion about the facts. This was a very useful and interesting evening as we found out about new sources for our own research. Forthcoming Meetings:

Ringwood We normally meet at 7.30 p.m. on the third Wednesday of every month at Ringwood Meeting House, 22 Meeting House Lane, Ringwood, BH24 1BY. Visitors and new members welcome. (June) This month we met in Ringwood Meeting House for the first face to face meeting in 2023. Unfortunately, our speaker was unable to be with us and we had a member’s evening. The subject was to bring an interesting object or photo and tell members about it. We covered subjects as varied as large photos of Irish ancestors, a lovely decorated photo album, ancestors from Holland, family photos found in books, a dispute with WDYTYA magazine over Brian and Jackie were our joint speakers this month on the story of the Duke of Monmouth his life, his ill-fated rebellion against his uncle King James II, his attempt to escape after the battle of Sedgemoor, and his capture, his execution in London and the Bloody assizes that followed. There is a particular Ringwood connection as the Duke of Monmouth was lodged overnight in Ringwood in what is now known as Monmouth House and Dame Alice Lisle from Moyles Court was a victim of Judge Jeffreys and the bloody assizes. Dame Alice Lisle was beheaded at Winchester and is buried in Ellingham church. Bryan and Jackie tell the story from his birth with pictures and props to the very end of the sad saga. This is a very well researched talk into the life of the Duke of Monmouth. It was a very entertaining evening, much enjoyed by the audience. Contact: Alison Davis or 07806 985671 Email: ringwood@hgs-online.org.uk an army badge and the 1921 census. We also welcomed two new members.
