Alton Meetings are normally held monthly on the second Monday at 7:30 p.m. in All Saints Church Hall, Queens Road, Alton.

(June) Meeting Our first item was a puzzle - a postcard showing Prince Henry of Germany, the then American President's wife, Alice, and a yacht! After much research - it seems that Prince Henry went to America to take delivery of the Meteor which was launched by Alice. Our member usually collects postcards of Bexhill in Sussex and one of these (a small studio group by a Bexhill photographer) was also a puzzle. On the back, it mentioned Mabel, Pamela, myself and the baby. Who were they and when was it taken? Possibly around WWI from the fashions. Another interesting picture was of the area called Plotlands in Essex. It was divided into plots which were sold off and people erected wooden buildings on them - one of which belonged to Florence Tadloo. This development is similar to that which happened in Beech near Alton in Hampshire. A set of cards were also shared. These had belonged to Altonian, Barbara Small who attended St Lawrence's Church and joined the Girl's Friendly Society. Over the years, she had entered many competitions for crafts held by the Society and she had kept all the cards to do with them and they tell a story of group which no longer seems to exist. Sadly, Barbara has now died but her cards will, hopefully, go to the Record Office for others to share. Forthcoming Meetings:
