In later years the Inland Revenue took the decision not to microfilm the information as a whole and selected 25 files from each year at random, therefore over 600 registers from 1894-1900 are ‘missing’. A very interesting talk, but do not assume that your ‘ag lab’ ancestor did not leave a will as many of them did, with a quarter of those surviving having been written by women. Forthcoming Meetings:

Our Guide as usual on this hot and sunny evening was HGS member Eric Reed. We met at the Pavilion on the Park on a piece of land donated by the WILLIS-FLEMING family to the Borough of Eastleigh. Eric explained that North and South Stoneham were large manors, each one a collection of several parishes. The two Stonehams stretched from Swaythling up to Allbrook. Where we would be walking was between the two and so ought to be called Middle Stoneham. The manor of North Stoneham was bought by Sir Richard Fleming in 1599. Sir Richard originated from the Isle of Wight and worked his way up to being a senior lawyer
