Alcohol - Bucks Fizz, Sherry, Eggnog, Brandy, Bailey’s and Raisin Beer for children in special green glasses. Jokes – Dad’s jokes and teasing. Children – Excited, asked to help, the apple of grandparents’ eyes. Indoor Fireworks – After tea the indoor fireworks came out and were lit one at a time to give smells, colours and wriggly ash! Stockings and Presents – Some had presents on Christmas Eve (clergy family). Family setting up Model Trains, Scalextric, Lego, Spirograph, Soldiers, Dolls, Colouring books, Chocolate selection boxes. Outings - Going to see the lights and shop windows in Central London. Visiting Father Christmas and getting a present. Selfridges, Gamages and department stores. Decorations - Crepe Paper streamers and shapes, making paper chains and plaster of Paris decorations. Decorating the table with holly and berries. Grandchildren – The excitement again. Leaving Father Christmas foot-prints in pretend snow. Letters burned to go up the chimney. Leaving Sherry and mince pie for Santa plus carrots for the reindeer. These are just a few memories from our families – What are yours? (January) What makes a marriage – Rules and Regulations Antony Marr Antony is an Ex-policeman and retired Registrar. He gave us a very interesting Zoom talk expanding our knowledge of marriage certificates for Family research and the laws pertaining to them. Starting with the definition of marriage, the history of registration and key dates from 1753 through to 2021 (today’s system) Antony gave us some very interesting information and details about the certificates, how they are completed and the rules that apply. He touched on witnesses, Father’s information, Divorce records, Civil partnerships, church records, Banns, Licences, Bigamy, Corrections, Same sex marriages and more.
