There were two talks for our member’s evening. The first from Mary had grown out of a U3A project and was about Odiham Prisoners of War. After giving us an overview of the wars that Britain had been involved in between 1701 to 1815, she focused on the Napoleonic War (1803-15). Though Odiham hosted prisoners from the War of 1812 with America, it was the French prisoners of the early 19th century that are most associated with the town when in 1803 about 189 prisoners were added to the population of 1,485. These prisoners were officers lodged under a parole agreement and Mary covered what their life would have been like and what would have happened to them if they broke the rules. Out of all the French prisoners that went through Odiham between 1803 and 1812, Mary decided to concentrate on
