(Dec) Christmas Party As the party date was set earlier in the year when we were still meeting in the church itself, we had arranged a Friday when we could have the hall. Though less members came than last year we were lucky that storm Darragh occurred the following morning, if it hadn’t we would have had to cancel. Those that did come seemed to enjoy themselves and while there were no terrible jokes this year to amuse us, we had John’s quiz along with the buffet to keep us all relatively quiet for a while. Very little food was left over this time but there was some red wine which I had to take home (well someone had to!). Forthcoming Meetings:

Droughts, Deluges & Dust Devils Ian Currie, weatherman, fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society and editor of the Weather Eye Magazine will look at 350 years of weather in the south-east. ZOOM TALK Roelof Vlietstra, Engelandvaarder (England Voyager) Martin Vlietstra plus the Annual Branch Meeting A very different war story about Martin’s father during WW2 and the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands. Archives Of The Commonwealth War Graves Commission Gareth Berry of the CWGC Using the CWGC archives for research . The Sands Of Time: A Surrey Cottage from 1450 Dr. Nicholas Dixon member of the Association of Professional Genealogists, will share some remarkable insights into the history of south-east England from one seemingly insignificant cottage in Limpsfield.

(September) My Eminent Ancestors – Laurie Page. Whilst researching his family tree and various ancestors Laurie came across several links to eminent ancestors. He discovered a booklet entitled “The Shepherd Booklet” that was a goldmine of useful information and helped to fill gaps in the research about the Shepherd family with some photos too. There were links to Sir Alfred Temple, Guildhall Manager, John Wesley, Lieutenant General Harvey, Governor of Portsmouth who was also an advisor to King George. Links included portraits in museum, Battles, Minister of Parliament, Ships Captains, Mayor of Folkstone,
