Ringwood We normally meet at 7.30 p.m. on the third Wednesday of every month at Ringwood Meeting House, 22 Meeting House Lane, Ringwood, BH24 1BY. Visitors and new members welcome. (November) Searching for Dora This is a very interesting story about the search for a “missing ancestor” and how it is done using traditional methods and the power of the internet and being able to confirm or disprove family myths. There are many twists and turns and red herrings and it would spoil the talk to give away too many details. Les provides crib sheets which help follow the complicated story. (January) Our speaker this month was Nick Saunders a, well known, local historian and his subject was researching local history via the newspapers. Nick explained that sometimes newspapers are the only historical source available and can provide a wealth of detail which can lead to other areas of research. Sometimes there is a photograph which may not exist elsewhere, court cases are fully reported, births marriages and deaths and even addresses are given, all of which add a lot of to your family tree. There was however a word of warning, stay focused it is very easy to get side tracked! There was a lot of useful information in this talk and very well delivered. Forthcoming meetings in the Meeting House unless stated otherwise: Contact: Alison Davis or 07806 985671 Email: ringwood@hgs-online.org.uk
