(November) The 1939 Register. One of our members had been looking for their family and found a 2nd cousin who later died in Africa in 1942, while another was said to be an actor. References to the latter were found in The Stage and he later appeared in Dr Who and BBC historical dramas – the family name was Ringham. In 1939, one of the Kellermans was a ‘shop assistant (book seller)’ but spent WWII in the Pioneer Corps. Although married, in 1939 he was in a lodging house with five other people – so where was his wife? Other Kellermans were working in another lodging house, living in Hammersmith at the family address and living in Canterbury. Some of the Register entries were not easy to read. Another member had searched through the entries for their village in Norfolk to look for those who might have been called up in the War and also noted the comments added later showing if they had been ARP Wardens or similar. Some medals for a son of Thomas Chesterfield of Alton had been bought on ebay and the 1939 Register had helped to give more information on the family. Altogether the Register had helped with the stories of families – it also raised more queries! Forthcoming Meetings:
