Reports by Carol Gomm (April) ABM & Member’s Evening

After our ABM and the presentation to Graham Mist as he stepped down as group organiser (see the June edition), the rest of the evening was devoted to four talks on the theme ‘What did you find in the 1921 Census?’. Two talks concentrated on some of the problems encountered. Melvyn found the index poor despite having family with unusual first names and places of birth, so he had to be inventive to find the information he wanted (Ida who married in Los Angles in 1895 sounds particularly fascinating and I am sure a talk can be squeezed out of her!). David, on the other hand, has ‘lost’ his mother. But as FMP are still releasing entries that had transcription problems, the moral of his story was ‘don’t give up’. Nick’s problem was from his own family. While the census has confirmed some things, other problems have been
